The thing is that what you do today could, and often does in some cases, have far reaching effects in various ways and even writing a poem, a letter or a creative article could end up not only becoming a work of ancient history in the far flung future but also a work of future history even on another planet. Take for example when man first landed on the Moon and they planted a flag there before returning home.
Imagine going back in time and visiting that person, or those people, involved in making that flag and telling them that many years in the future that flag that they made is not only still intact but it can also be found on the Moon. I am very sure that not only will they be somewhat shocked by that news but also, for sure, very shocked and totally puzzled as to how it could have possibly ended up on the Moon in addition.
From their point of view no one had gone to the Moon when they were making that flag back then, let alone landing on it at that point in time, so imagine how someone would react to such a thing?, more-so, as it was very much a period in time, in history, when people thought of any sort of space travel as nothing more than silly fantasy. And yet just like that flag made on Earth all those years ago there it is – still standing on the Moon all these decades later.
The point to all of this is that when people, and you, create something today it could not only still be around in thousands of years to come in the future, and people could be looking at what you or others did or created all those years ago, but also such a thing could still be standing or being looked at on some far flung planet in a galaxy far, far away just like that flag.
For all I know you could be reading a version of what I have just written on a machine not yet invented, on a planet not as yet discovered, while talking to alien life forms that have 3 heads. In fact you, yourself, reading this may not be human at all as we know it at this point in time, as I write this, but a form of organic robot that has yet to be invented as a result of what someone will write about, with maybe regard to advanced robotics, in my far off future as it is in your far distant past.
But then again having said all that – maybe what you and I did today will just end up in the bin and taken away in the end. Such is life – yes?
